Who this is for

Private investors and part-time swing traders who already trade but find moving averages confusing in practice. Perhaps you plot a 50-day line because a forum recommended it, yet you are unsure when a pullback to that line is a genuine entry or a falling knife. This workshop is for you.

You should be comfortable reading daily candlestick charts and placing limit or stop orders through your broker. Prior exposure to moving averages is helpful but not required — we start from first principles and build toward a personal plan.

What you will learn

  • How simple and exponential moving averages differ in lag and responsiveness on daily charts
  • Selecting a faster and slower average pair suited to a 3–15 day holding period
  • Identifying trend structure: higher highs, higher lows, and where averages confirm or contradict price
  • Marking pullback entry zones with a defined invalidation level below the slower average
  • Documenting a weekly watchlist with written thesis, entry, stop, and target before Monday's open
  • Recognising crossover traps and when to ignore a golden cross entirely

What is included

  • Printed workbook with chart exercises and planning template
  • Access to sample watchlists from UK and US equities used during the session
  • Thirty minutes of individual chart review time within the group setting
  • Tea, coffee, and lunch (in-person dates at Bream venue)
  • Follow-up email with session notes and your completed plan template

What is not included

We do not provide trading signals, broker recommendations, or access to proprietary indicators. The workshop teaches interpretation and planning — execution remains entirely your responsibility. Tax, regulatory, and leverage advice are outside scope.

How the day runs

  1. Morning — Foundations. Review of SMA and EMA mechanics, live chart walkthroughs on FTSE and S&P names, and group discussion of common misconceptions.
  2. Midday — Your averages. Each participant selects a pair for their typical holding period. Exercises on marking support, resistance, and invalidation.
  3. Afternoon — The weekly plan. Build a draft plan for the coming week using the Hub Fieldgrid template. Individual feedback from the instructor on two of your watchlist names.

Preparation

Bring a laptop or tablet with your charting software, or printed charts of three names you are currently watching. If attending online, ensure you can share your screen. No special software is required — we work with free charting tools and broker platforms alike.
