Our story
Hub Fieldgrid is the registered trading name of our training practice, established in 2019 in Bream, Gloucestershire. Founder James Fieldgrid began teaching after a decade of swing trading UK and US equities from a home office near the Wye Valley. Colleagues at a local investment club kept asking the same question — how to use moving averages without treating every crossover as a buy signal — and the workshops grew from those conversations.
We opened a dedicated training room on Grenoble Road in 2021, allowing small in-person groups while continuing online sessions for traders elsewhere in Britain. The name reflects both the founder's surname and the grid-like structure we teach: a repeatable framework for reading averages across your watchlist each week.
Our approach
Charts before commentary
Every session spends most of its time on live charts. We mark up trends, pullbacks, and failures together rather than lecturing from slides.
Written plans matter
Traders who leave with a filled planning template perform better in follow-up reviews. Verbal intentions fade; written invalidation levels do not.
Honest about limits
Moving averages lag. They fail in choppy ranges. We teach when to stand aside, not just when to enter.
James Fieldgrid
James traded personal capital from 2008 onward, focusing on swing positions in FTSE 350 and large-cap US names. He contributed articles to a regional traders' association newsletter before formalising Hub Fieldgrid in 2019.
He holds the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Certificate in Corporate Finance and has completed the STA Diploma in Technical Analysis. James does not manage client funds — training and chart review are his sole professional activities.
Values we hold
Clarity over complexity. Two well-chosen averages beat a chart cluttered with six indicators. We teach restraint.
Respect for risk. Position sizing and stop placement are discussed in every session. Technical analysis supports risk decisions; it does not replace them.
Community, not competition. Workshop participants often exchange watchlist ideas after sessions. We foster that collegial tone rather than ranking traders against each other.
Hub Fieldgrid serves traders across England and Wales, with regular attendees from Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, and London joining online or making a day trip to the Forest of Dean.
